Calling all prophetic magi! We celebrated epiphany with our good friend Heather Walker who read the magi blessing over us and taught us the inside outs of being a magi. Magi, or magicians (not rabbit-out-of-hat types but intelligent, educated, religious-scientist types), where king makers traveling from city to city, following prophecies and signs to anoint kings and change leadership. There is good evidence that these magi were ancestors as those magi in Babylon during Daniel’s reign as chief magi. It’s very likely he taught them to read the signs to find the Messiah and to anoint Him as king. There were many religions at the time predicting the arrival of a king over all kings. Many looking in the heavens for signs and expecting a supernatural king to appear. The Magi arrived (not 3) in an entourage of security and political people to protect the vast amounts of tressure they carried. Frankincense was used for worship in the Temple; it is symbolic of Christ the High Priest. Gold is symbolic of Christ the King. Myrrh a perfume, was used to anoint dead bodies, it is symbolic of His death and resurrection, and therefore of Christ the Messiah. Herod’s fear came from the fact that magi had come to the region before to dethrone him. What would it look like to raise up modern prophetic magi who would anoint future leaders of nations, kings, and queens over regions. What would it take for the prophetic to regain it’s relevant reputation and king-makers? Prophetic that wasn’t moved by the political or religious spirts of the day, but moved by the king of kings to call out and raise up kings! Joyous Epiphany to all.
