There is a difference

There is a difference between just looking at a beam of light, and looking along, and into one. Looking at the light will only allow us to see where it is coming from and where it is going. But if we step into the light and look along it, we are allowing it to cover us. Not only are we then looking directly towards the source, but we are also affected by the light being covered in its warmth.
At the beginning of 1 John 1:5-10, we read “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” It goes on to describe how we are not in the light if we are still living in sin.
This is further reflected in Ephesians 5:13-14 “But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light.” If we want to live genuinely changed lives for God, it is not enough to observe Him, but we need to be completely immersed and covered by Him, letting Him reveal our sins and allowing Him to cleanse us of them, so that we may continue to live in Him.
