FAQ
Do I need a DTS?
Generally, yes—a completed Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a prerequisite for SSM.
While DTS is required for most applicants, exceptions are occasionally made for active ministry leaders or full-time missionaries. Contact us today—we’d love to learn about your ministry background and see if you qualify.
Duration?
The school runs for 2 months (Lecture Phase: April – May 2027), followed by an optional* 3-week “ignite” outreach.
Outreach Phase?
*If you plan to return directly to your full-time ministry or missionary work after the Lecture Phase, the 3-week outreach is completely optional.
What should I pack?
A full packing list will be sent in your acceptance packet.
Because the school takes place in mid-to-late spring, temperatures in Kelowna can range from crisp mornings to warm afternoons. We recommend packing layers, comfortable casual wear, outdoor gear for spring trails, a Bible, a journal, and any personal essentials you need for 2 months.
What day can I arrive?
Students are responsible for booking their own round-trip travel to Kelowna (YLW). Please do not book any flights until you are officially accepted. We ask that you plan your arrival for the weekend immediately prior to the official start date, as classes officially begin on Monday morning. Detailed airport pickup options and arrival instructions will be provided upon acceptance.
Canadian Visa?
International students are eligible to attend on a standard Canada Visitor Visa or eTA, as the school runs under six months.
Because class activities or weekend trips may cross into the United States during the 2-month lecture phase, please ensure you are also eligible for US entry (such as an ESTA or US Visitor Visa).
Note: Due to current processing restrictions, we cannot accept applications from Africa, China, or the Indian subcontinent unless you already reside in North America.
Is the school Accredited?
Yes. SSM is an sccredited “seminar” through the University of the Nations (UofN) under course codes CHR 163 / 164.
